Wouldn't have been easier just to port the PC version of warships?

Recommended Posts

I'm pretty confused as to why Warships console addition was built from the ground up and not just ported from PC. The Xbox one and PS4 base models both meet the recommended specs and use a architecture similar to a PC. Change the controls and UI to be more console friendly make the PC and console servers separate. That would be way easier then almost completely remaking it right?

Yes and no, by saying that the game is being made from scratch, we are implementing things that are not in WoWsPC, redesigning configurations, new maps, new mechanics, etc..

Some models of boats are passed from PC to Legends, i.e. models of certain things.

We are not making a copy and paste, we are creating together the best naval game of consoles.

A copy and paste would still make it the best naval game for consoles, not a lot of competition there. But if they think they can improve on what they've done, they should go for it.

I mean the game looks absolutely fantastic as it is, I trust the developers know what they're doing here.

I assume Wargaming and their contacted studios would do whatever is cheapest. For whatever reason, ground-up was cheaper. I don't know the reason, but I'm sure they wouldn't go to all this trouble if a port was as simple as it sounds.

I wouldn't automatically assume that a company just goes for whatever is the cheapest option either. No matter what company it is, yes cost is a concern when developing or building anything. On the flip side of that, if the cheapest option is always chosen, your product is virtually garbage.

Put that into other business areas where opinions about entertainment don't matter. For instance, what I used to do in my younger days, private contract firefighting and now equipment falls apart, firefighters get hurt, insurance goes up, company loses bids/contracts, company goes out of business.

A company will always take cost into consideration, they have to in order to keep the doors open and the lights on, but assuming any company always uses the cheapest option? Na...

Now if you were to have said the US State or Federal contract system, you'd be on to something.

I'm sure all the beta testers for WOTC remember why we did not get a direct port of that game...

It seems a shame to me it's not a direct port, both consoles support mouse and keyboard, enable cross platform play and you'd have a single large player base.

Have you played war thunder, fun but that UI will drive you to drinking if your using a game pad. The problem is with M&K is even with support the percentage of console players willing to use one is likely pretty small. A lot of console gamers don't play PC much, and it can be a rough adjustment.

M&K is widely believed to have an advantage over gamepads for certain games I could hear the complaints rolling in about an unfair advantage the PC players have. Combine that with the experience advantage PC players have and it could really hurt console numbers.

Could you imagine the seal clubbing?

Creating the best naval game? You mean dumbing down again for console? 9v9 instead 12v12 and 7 of 10 tech trees? I sure hope they will change that on full release...

Otherwise keep your WoWs Lite Crap...

I've seen this sentiment a lot.

I had a good crack at WT on console with a controller. While I really liked the game there's no way I would have continued without a M&K so might as well play on PC and I don't have one of those. Plus I'm a console play who doesn't want to use a M&K because that's not the experience I'm after.

I welcome the game with or without mouse and keyboard, what the devs are working on is for this platform.

This is a long awaited addition to console, name one single naval ship to ship combat PvP game built just for us (console peasants)

Yea i thought so.....

Its about time if you ask me, keep up the work devs, its not all complaints.

Thank you WG

Think you mean 7 tiers? Unfortunately, there's not any other options for naval games out there. Unless you want to play PT boats in War Thunder, good luck with that...

Plus, as long as they're better than WoT "Mercenaries"...which won't be too difficult.

I think directly porting the game would probably make everyone have to deal with more bugs than right now.

While starting from zero (not really but close) sounds troublesome and is probably the most expensive option the result will be a game tailored for console rather than just made compatible for console. That and adding 5GBs from time to time and slowly fixing bugs is probably healthier than porting 50GBs and fixing those bugs (numbers are hipothetical, just for comparison' sake) - It's also easier to take into account our feedback and change what needs to be changed like this I think.
