Through the Spy Glass: Iwami

Named after an old Japanese province famed for its silver production (which is the reason why the campaign is titled “Silver Tsurugi”), Iwami is based on an ambitious preliminary design for Yamato—the A-140-J3 design, with some modifications. The super battleship-to-be was designed to carry a powerful mixture of accurate artillery, dual-purpose secondary guns, and effective torpedoes on board. Coming equipped with what is effectively eight Shimakaze torpedoes, Iwami is a force to be reckoned with! Complementing this potent torpedo loadout are eight 16.1-inch (410 mm) main battery guns and three charges of both the Repair Party and Enhanced Secondary Targeting consumables.

We recommend the following build: Takeo Takagi with his “Phoenix” base trait increasing the total HP restored by Repair Party by up to +5%.

Given that the torpedoes travel at a speed of 67 kts up to a 15 km range, we’re going to use the Commander skill selection to enhance the main battery guns and allow them to excel within these ranges.

• Flammable Cannonier significantly increases your main battery range and shell grouping but comes with the negative trade-off of increasing your risk of catching fire. (We will mitigate this with the newly reworked “Fight Fire with Fire” legendary skill later).
• Gyrating Drillbits increases your battleship’s gun traverse speed and AP damage while reducing her maximum speed.
• Marksmanship improves your main battery dispersion by up to –10% while making your rudder-shift time slightly worse.
• Emergency Specialist reduces both your Damage Control Party cooldown time and active duration.
• Fight Fire with Fire reduces the fire damage your ship takes for each active fire by up to 15% and removes damage-over-time effects from your ship whenever there are three concurrent fires.

Regarding Inspirations, we recommend:

• Angelo Iachino, increasing your battleship’s main battery shell grouping when shooting at battleships, cruisers, and destroyers.
• Otto Ciliax, further increasing your battleship’s main gun AP shell damage.
