Through the Spy Glass: K. Schönberg
Karl von Schönberg is based on a large destroyer design created by the Vulcan shipbuilding company in 1933. It was intended to serve as the basis for the future Type 1934 destroyers. One of the armament options was to outfit the ship with four 5.9-inch (150 mm) guns. However, the effectiveness of such a destroyer was questioned, leading the Kriegsmarine administration to prioritize a design with smaller-caliber guns and lighter armament.
In Legends, Karl von Schönberg stands out as a distinctive addition to the German destroyer lineup. She features four quick-firing 150 mm main guns with HE shells capable of penetrating even highly armored targets, and she boasts a decent HP pool for a destroyer of her tier. As for consumables, she's equipped with improved Sonar and Main Battery Reload Booster—the latter of which will help you win almost any gunfight while active. You can replace Main Battery Reload Booster with Smoke Generator if you prefer more cautious gameplay. The weak side of K. Schönberg is her torpedoes, which have rather short range and moderate damage, so you may like to focus more on gunfights.
We recommend the following build: Erich Bey with his base trait Shifty, improving your destroyer's concealment by up to 4%.
For the skill selection,
- Observant Rage, enhancing your destroyer's main battery reload time by up to 5% and increasing incoming torpedo acquisition range by up to 12%. However, it comes at the cost of an up to 10% increase in rudder-shift time.
- Look at Me Now, improving your ship's sea detectability range by up to 6%.
- Twist n' Track, improving your destroyer's gun traverse speed by up to 2°/s and indicating the direction of the closest enemy ship.
- Torpedo Royal, enhancing your torpedo speed by up to 2 knots and torpedo damage by up to 6%, but also increasing your torpedo detectability by up to 100 m.
- Unstoppable, reducing your Damage Control Party cooldown time by up to 50% when within 7.5 km of an enemy ship, improving engine repair time by up to 15%, and enabling reduced mobility when the engine/rudder is disabled.
