Through the Spy Glass: Preußen
Preußen is a hypothetical battleship based on how designs might have changed after the early lessons of World War II. The proposed changes included stronger horizontal armor while keeping the draft at 11.5 meters for shallow-water operations, a triple bottom with more watertight compartments for better protection against underwater explosions, and 18-inch (457 mm) main battery guns for increased firepower. In reality, however, naval priorities shifted toward submarines, and the development of such battleships was ultimately halted.
Preußen is a German Legendary Tier battleship armed with formidable 457 mm guns—one of the largest calibers in the game. She also offers excellent accuracy for a battleship, particularly impressive by German standards, as well as strong armor protection.
Here are the recommended upgrades for Preußen:
- Aiming Systems Mod. 1
- Propulsion Mod. 2
- Concealment System Mod. 1
- Main Battery Mod. 3
Franz Von Hipper is the perfect candidate to take command of Preußen. His Elbowroom base trait increases secondary battery range by up to 15% and tightens shell grouping by up to 5%. This combination makes for an optimal skill setup:
- Flammable Cannonier, increasing main battery range by up to 8% and tightening shell grouping by up to 5% at the cost of increased chances of catching fire by up to 13%.
- Knight's Spirit, improving shell damage by up to 12% against battleships and up to 6% against cruisers and destroyers.
- Marksmanship, tightening main battery shell grouping by up to 10% at the cost of reducing rudder-shift speed by up to 5%.
- Emergency Specialist, reducing Damage Control Party cooldown time by up to 30% at the cost of reducing its active duration by up to 70%.
- Fight Fire with Fire, reducing the fire damage your ship takes over time for each active fire by up to 15%. It also removes all damage-over-time effects (including flooding) from your ship when three concurrent fires are burning while your Damage Control Party consumable is on cooldown or fully depleted.
Inspirations:
- Angelo Iachino, improving main battery shell grouping by up to 7% against cruisers and by up to 3% against other ship types.
- Andrew Cunningham, improving main battery shell grouping by up to 5%.
