FAQ
If you already have a console account, you can easily link it to the mobile version of Legends using this guide.
Engage in naval battles while commanding destroyers, cruisers, aircraft carriers, and battleships; find the perfect balance of firepower, maneuverability, and tactics.
You will rise through various tiers of ships, trying out various legendary vessels as you go and training your Commanders to get the most out of the available sets of weaponry and ships' hull characteristics. Choose between two types of shells, launch torpedoes, and outsmart your opponents. Decide which tactics are best for you: employ blunt force, a measured approach, or stealth.
Simply put, no. We've created a native console experience pretty much from scratch, while sourcing content and resources from the PC version, which is, of course, our main inspiration. This streamlines our development process quite a bit, since we can focus on delivering the best naval combat gameplay available within the console realm.
It also means that our game does not share Premium time or progression with the PC version.
WoWS: Legends is not exactly a hardcore simulator. We have made sure to combine the right action and arcade elements with believable physics, making it a fun yet challenging game that can entertain you either for 15 minutes or several hours at a time. The battles are dynamic and competitive, while the ships are all based on real prototypes with historical Commanders at their helms.
Simply find the game in your platform store of choice and download it.
You can play Legends on PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X.
There are four types available:
- Destroyers, most of which represent a "glass cannon" philosophy that means they possess smaller HP pools, but are armed with deadly torpedoes. They are swift and can launch surprise attacks.
- Cruisers, which are better armored and armed, making them well-rounded fighters.
- Battleships, floating fortresses that can dispose of smaller adversaries with a single salvo—but if you should miss, it will be a long time before you're able to fire again. The armor and hit point distribution among the types allows battleships to be sturdy and show longevity in battle.
- Aircraft Carriers, a versatile ship type that utilizes aircraft to control the digital airspace, providing critical intelligence data while pushing the enemy back and providing support for allied ships to engage.
There are 8 tiers of ships in total. You begin at Tier I with late 19th to early 20th century cruisers. Overall, tiers can be separated into two distinct timelines—Tiers I–IV belong to the "dreadnought era," while everything from Tier V and above consists of WWII ships. After playing several battles with the starter ships and becoming acquainted with the controls and basic mechanics, you'll move up to Tier II cruisers. These are faster, better armed, sturdier and have a choice of armament (high-explosive or armor-piercing shells, except for some British ships). From there, you'll be able to branch out into the destroyers, which are all about stealth and high risk, high reward gameplay. Tier III will allow you to try out the battleships, which bring huge salvos and armor but lack maneuverability. From that point, you're free to continue with whichever type suits you best, as well as pursue other Tech Trees. As you move up, the ships become more modern, fast, and powerful, all the way up to the Legendary Tier, where you get to experience the ultimate naval machines.
That depends on what you define as success. If you're interested in naval warfare to any degree, you're highly likely to be in for a very good time. When it comes to skills, the optimal set will largely depend on what ship type you prefer, but tactical prowess, firing accuracy and reaction time—in that order—will make you a great ship Commander in Legends. Let us stress the importance of tactics again, because with clever play you'll be able to outsmart your opponents, even if they are better shots.
Certainly! Form Divisions with your friends so you can coordinate your actions and simply have fun together. When you´re together in a Division, your voice chat will automatically work to enable communication between the Division members. If you wish to talk to other teammates, simply change the voice chat settings on the tactical map (“view” button on Xbox, or the touchpad on PlayStation).
The upper limit for a battle in WoWS: Legends is 15 minutes, with an average battle time of around 9 minutes. Of course, a lot depends on the involved players' skill levels, exact team compositions, and other factors.
We currently support the English, German, French, Japanese, Russian, Brazilian Portuguese, Mexican Spanish, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese languages.
No subscription is required.
The progression systems are quite different, so transfers of assets or progress is not possible.
Legends has a separate Premium Account time system from World of Tanks: Modern Armor and World of Warships PC, because it has been developed in a different studio to WoT: Modern Armor and doesn´t share a platform with WoWS.
Yes! By default, you can be matched with Captains from other platforms than yours. If you wish, you can disable that functionality in your console settings.
Since the games are different, no such feature can be implemented.
The account you use for each platform is specific to that platform. I.e. for consoles it's either Xbox Gamertag or PSN ID. Subsequently, you’ll be able to create an account and tie that to your platform account, but it will be unique to WoWS: Legends. You can do that at wowslegends.com.
The Introductory Project is mandatory and requires completion before progressing to the other options. This Project will help explain the mechanics and features of the Bureau within the game.
Absolutely—we don’t want to reduce your ability to enjoy the game by taking away your ships and Commanders!
Each Stage of each Segment requires the use of one or more of a small pool of ships to increase your research per second. The ships that are required vary considerably and may need you to have ships that are outside of your comfort zone—to maximize your research potential, we encourage you to try out new lines and playstyles, as well as obtain as many ships as you can!
Yes. On some occasions, Premium ships have a slight bonus for Research Points.
You can do this by going to your chosen Project and selecting directly from there. These will not appear in the Campaigns & Missions tabs, however. Pay careful attention to the completion requirements for the Daily Trials as they do vary from stage to stage!
They do, so remember to reactivate them if you haven’t completed a trial in your previous session.
It won’t. However, they will need to be of a particular minimum rank to be used!
Through logging in daily, completing tasks and fulfilling as much as you can—likely around 2 months.
The fastest you will be able to complete a ship Project will be around 4–6 weeks, and that is through a combination of boosting, logging in daily, assigning Fleet Support and Patrons, and completing required tasks. This may, however, change with future Updates and depends on the type of Project.
This is dependent on the Project type. However, using Yamato, Alaska, or G. Kurfürst as an example, it will cost 1,700 to fully boost one Stage of a Segment, up to a maximum of 3,400 per Segment. An approximate conversion is 1 doubloon for every 1,000 Research Points needed, so the amount to boost a Stage is also influenced by how much you have already researched. The total costs are dependent on how much you are boosting by and for however many segments you apply it to. Keep in mind that you cannot boost more than 40% of a Segment with doubloons, but there can be exceptions to this rule.
Research can be done entirely for free, but it will be done more quickly with boosting, completing Daily Trials, and assigning ships and Patrons to the Project!
Without Premium Account, you can research one Project at a time. With Premium, you will be able to research two.
Progress is saved whenever a Project is deactivated, meaning you can pick up right where you left off whenever you choose to go back to it! For those with Premium time, if it runs out before a Project is completed, the Project that was active through this (the one that sits lower on the interface) will be frozen and can be reactivated upon restoring Premium time.
The research will continue for 24 hours after your last in-game activity.
No, if you do not log in after 24 hours of not being in-game, research is simply paused until you return. Logging into the game will reset that 24-hour counter and restart/continue any research!
Yes. It is possible for Legendary-Tier ships to Division up with Tier VII ships, so go enjoy some battles with your friends!
Legendary Ships require a baseline of 200,000 credits to be serviced, plus 5–15% more for used ammo. As with other tiers, earnings are partially dependent on the enemies you are targeting and damage, so attacking other Legendary ships will earn slightly higher rewards than focusing on Tier VII ships.
No! There are quite a few different Projects, and some of them are not even focused on ships, but those Projects are usually tied to special events and can be time-limited.
At Account Level 7, you will obtain one Commander per nation, and you will be able to purchase most of the standard roster (historical Commanders) for 900,000 Commander XP each. You can obtain additional Commander crates by completing special events and weekly missions. Alternatively, you can purchase Commander crates and National crates from the in-game Store with doubloons. You are guaranteed to get a new Commander until you obtain all those that are available from the relevant crate. If you receive a duplicate Commander from your crate, you will receive a Personal Commendation which you can use to upgrade that Commander to Legendary rank. On occasion, there may also be non-historical event Commanders sold for doubloons, such as those that featured as part of the Halloween and the Azure Lane events. In addition, some Premium Ship bundles may also include specific Commanders.
To maximize your Commander’s potential, you should try to use them on ships that are specific to their skill sets, as some of them have skills that are only useful to certain types. To assign a Commander to a ship for the first time, press either A (Xbox) or X (PS), then select the Commander from your available selection. To change the assigned Commander, highlight the ship and then tap up on your D-pad followed by A (Xbox) or X (PS) and then make your selection from your available assets.
From the main Commanders screen, select the Commander you wish to promote, then highlight the rank you want from the center column. Promoting Commanders requires Commander XP for all ranks, with ranks 7 to 13 also needing Promotion Orders, ranks 14 to 16 needing Insignia, and Commendations being required for the Legendary ranks.
Commander XP is gained from battles, usually at a 1:1 ratio with Ship XP, but this can be modified by applying Boosters. Commander XP can also be earned by completing missions and events, as well as be bought from the in-game Store. Promotion Orders and Insignias can be obtained by completing missions and events, through purchasing special bundles via the in-game Store, and from daily and event containers. Personal Commendations can be obtained by collecting duplicate Commanders from crates, and Universal Commendations can be obtained by completing special tasks and passing campaign milestones. To fully upgrade a Commander, you will need 692,000 Commander XP; 153 Promotion Orders; 8 Insignia; and 26 Commendations—while this is a substantial amount of resources, you should remember that a fully upgraded Commander is a force to be reckoned with, whatever your skill level!
In addition to your Commander’s base trait, you can choose up to four skills from their selection—one from each row. Simply highlight the skill you wish to assign and press A (Xbox) or X (PS) to confirm. Note that for Tier I and II ships, only the first three rows of skills are active.
You can change your chosen skills for a Commander at any time for free. We encourage you to try out skills and test builds to maximize their potential!
Inspirations are a feature that allows you to essentially add two extra base traits to a Commander. You unlock your first Inspiration slot at rank 7 and the second at rank 11. To apply an Inspiration, select the relevant slot from the Commander Skill page and then select your desired Commander from the ones you have available. Inspirations are not limited by nation, so you can have a Japanese Commander inspiring one from the United States or British lines and vice versa. Inspirations essentially copy the base traits without any penalties, and their particular stats are dependent on the base traits' levels. It means that a rank 16 Commander will "inspire" significantly stronger than a rank 1 Commander.
Yes, however, there is a penalty for changing Inspirations in already filled Inspiration slots, so to change a particular Inspiration a Commander needs to finish seven battles with a new one or skip the adoption process by using 3,000 Commander XP per battle, making an instant Inspiration switch cost 21,000 Commander XP.
Legendary ranks offer separate upgrades to your Commander, as well as an additional row of skills. Effectively, they add one additional level each to your Commander’s base traits, as well as improve the mastery of each of your main skills by one level. This is done sequentially, e.g. Legendary rank 1 will add one mastery to the first row of skills, Legendary rank 2 will add one mastery to the second, and so on. Remember—by improving the Legendary status of your Commander, you are not just making them stronger as a Commander in their own right, you are also improving their strength as an Inspiration.
As there is currently no mechanism to receive Personal Commendations for event or unique Commanders. You will need to use your Universal Commendations to promote these Commanders to Legendary status. However, this is something that is being looked into!
Once unlocked at Account Level 8, you can obtain Boosters from daily and event containers, special events, and missions. You can also get them as campaign rewards. Alternatively, you can purchase bundles from the in-game Store using doubloons and special campaign currencies. Boosters can also be obtained by earning medals during battle once per day, per medal:
-
Kraken Unleashed
- 10x Ship XP Boosters
-
Confederate
- 10x Commander XP Boosters
-
Solo Warrior
- 10x Global XP Boosters
-
First Blood
- 1x Credit Booster
-
It's Just a Flesh Wound
- 10x Credit Boosters
-
Dreadnought, High Caliber, Wither, Close Quarters Expert, Detonation, Double Strike, Fireproof, Die-Hard, Liquidator, Unsinkable, Arsonist
- 10x Battle Boosters
You can also combine multiple Boosters to enhance them: 4x Common Boosters of each type to make 1x Rare Booster; 3x Rare Boosters to produce 1x Epic quality Booster.
In order to qualify for rewards after a battle, you need to be mobile and active in the battle, which will earn XP and support your team. Technically, this means that you need to either travel 2 kilometers or deal 10% of ship HP in total damage during the battle. That percentage is calculated as % of ship X HP + % of ship Y HP. Additionally, ungracefully exiting the game (e.g. quitting early without being destroyed) will also net you 0 credits and XP. Rarely, this will also include those that get disconnected from the game. However, in most instances, restarting the game should automatically load you back into battle.
Simply put, your performance in battle. Credits and XP are earned by playing objectives such as capping and defending bases, spotting enemy targets, damaging enemy ships, tanking and deflecting incoming damage, gaining ribbons, earning medals, and of course—how many targets you send to the bottom. Remember—when it comes to damaging your enemy, your rewards are based on the percentage of a ship's hit points you damage, not the raw damage numbers. This means that 10,000 damage against a destroyer will be worth more than 10,000 damage against a battleship due to the battleship’s much larger HP pool. Games that result in a victory for your team will earn you a +50% bonus to your base XP income.
Once you have attained Account Level 6, you will unlock Global XP and have sufficient doubloons and Elite XP available to convert. Simply press either the Y button (Xbox) or triangle button (PS) on the Port screen and then tap left with your D-pad to reach the conversion interface.
Any Global XP you have either earned or exchanged can be used to top up Commander XP; boost the progression of Tech Tree ships; or purchase special Global XP ships such as Atago, Tirpitz, Alabama, Atlanta, Gascogne, and the Legendary Tier Stalingrad!
An Admiralty Backing (AB) offers players more in-game rewards in exchange for doubloons and is often the only way to obtain the high-tier Premium Ships that are frequently the ultimate rewards of campaigns. An AB is usually 2,500 doubloons, but this does sometimes change, so be sure to check the campaign details in-game. An AB can be obtained at any stage of a campaign, and you will automatically receive any rewards for the milestones that you have completed at the time of purchase.
Once you have purchased an Admiralty Backing, you will have the option to skip stages of the campaign. You can skip any number of stages by highlighting the desired milestone you wish to skip to and pressing the appropriate button prompts. It currently costs 250 doubloons to skip each milestone.
Players with Premium Accounts will generally be able to progress through the Tech Trees more quickly, as they receive an additional +50% Ship XP, Commander XP and credits from battles. Additionally, you will unlock the ability to research two Bureau Projects simultaneously.
The earned credits displayed on the Battle Results screen are your earnings before things like ammo and service costs are taken into account. Service costs for Tech Tree ships are fixed and are shown below.
- Legendary Tier – 200,000
- Tier VII – 136,000
- Tier VI – 101,250
- Tier V – 28,750
- Tier IV – 15,000
- Tier III – 8,750
- Tier II – 6,250
- Tier I – 0
While the base service cost is fixed (it doesn’t matter if you survive the game or not, you still pay this amount), there are also ammo costs which vary from battle to battle, but these are typically around 5 to 10% of the service cost—this applies to your main armament and torpedoes. While an excellent game at high tiers will reap huge rewards, if you play a poor game, you will likely make a loss. In general, if you need to make a lot of credits quickly, try playing Tier V Premium ship or drop down to lower tiers. Playing a Tier VI ship at an okay-ish to good level should also be a gainful enterprise for you, with great games at Tier VI being the top earner on the average.
Premium ships come fully upgraded and feature unique, often historically accurate permanent camouflages that provide bonuses to their concealment and de-buffs to incoming enemy shell dispersion. Additionally, Premium ships benefit from increased credit gains of roughly 40 to 50% for Tier II to VI, and 15% for Tier VII. Ships of Tier V and VI have reduced service costs compared with their Tech Tree counterparts. Premium ships of all tiers also enjoy a +25% increase to their base XP.
This depends on where the package is purchased—if you redeem doubloons in-game for any package that includes a ship you already own, you will receive the equivalent value in credits. If the package was bought for real-world currency directly (e.g. the physical copy or from your platform’s own store) then you will receive the doubloon value of said ship. Note that if the ship’s name differs, you will receive a new variant of the ship. For example, if you owned Atlanta and bought or won Atlanta B, you would receive Atlanta B in your Port, as these are counted as different ships. Likewise, if you owned Arkansas FE and bought a pack featuring Arkansas, again you would receive that ship.
Endless Trials and finishing in top positions within time-limited events (e.g. Ranked battles). See also: https://wowsl.co/2OJnufM.
Once you reach Account Level 8, you will be able to apply single-use camouflages to your ships that increase your concealment and/or reduce enemy accuracy. Camos can be obtained by opening daily and event containers, by completing missions and reaching campaign milestones, or by purchasing them via the in-game Store using doubloons and campaign currencies. From time to time, permanent camouflages may be obtained by completing in-game mission chains or using doubloons or campaign currencies. All Premium ships come equipped with permanent camouflages. Additionally, you can dismantle unwanted and unused temporary camouflages to earn Paint—a resource you can use to craft unique, historically accurate camouflages that are currently available for some Tier VII ships like the mighty German Bismarck!
We want to ensure that we have a good balance amongst our destroyer, cruiser, battleship, and aircraft carrier lines before we look at adding a fifth type to the mix. Submarines have only recently been announced for WoWS PC, and there are currently no plans to introduce them into Legends for the foreseeable future.
There are currently no plans to extend the Tech Tree to 10 tiers. The game has been built and balanced around seven tiers plus a single Legendary Tier. The matchmaker has been designed around this. Changing the game to 10 tiers would be a huge undertaking and involve a significant rework of the whole game's foundations.
More nations and ships are added steadily over time. It is not a straightforward process, as all ships need to be modeled, tested, and balanced before being introduced into the game. As a number of factors can influence the development of ships and lines, we are unable to provide ETAs until we are happy with the results and ready to share them with you.
If you obtain a ship through the Early Access events, this ship is yours to keep as long as you don’t sell it. Any XP or Elite XP accumulated will also remain with the ship too!
While our focus is on ships that existed historically as much as possible, there will be some occasions where we may need to use designs that only featured in blueprints. This will tend to be the case where there are not enough historical ships to make up a Tech line or the gaps and leaps in power between types is too pronounced.
To unlock Legendary ships, you need to take on the extensive task of researching them over a long period of time using the Bureau. You can also obtain Soviet Legendary Tier Stalingrad for GXP. We consider these to be the crowning glories for the nations we have in Legends, and this is the reason for their special unlocking requirements!
Limiting a single Division to a trio helps prevent a game from being won or lost based on the actions of, at most, a third of the team in Standard or Versus AI battles. This is also to ensure that the matchmaking waiting time is not unnecessarily stretched out, since it always tries to match the number of Divisions among teams. Keep in mind, however, that looking for a game while in a Division can sometimes take a tad longer. Ranked Battle seasons may also have additional restrictions such as a type limit or even a two-man Division cap.
The matchmaker tries to put teams together from a +1/-1 tier spread, with teams as evenly balanced as possible—that is to say that Team A will have roughly the same spread of tiers and types of ships as Team B. However, Divisions can skew this on occasion.
The exception to the +1/-1 tier spread is Divisions. If players have formed a Division where they are not all playing ships of the same tier, there is a chance that the lower tier player(s) may be pulled into a match where they will face higher tier ships than they would ordinarily face. For Ranked battles, the matchmaker also mirrors the team's type composition, so there will always be an equal number of destroyers, cruisers, and battleships on each team. When it comes to Legendary ships, only Tier VII and other Legendary ships will see these in battle, and there will be a maximum difference in team distribution of one Legendary ship.
Our matchmaker is built around 9 vs. 9. This not only allows for more engaging and faster paced battles, but also helps reduce player waiting times and ensures the most stable game performance.
While the decision as to whether to enable cross-play on your console is your own, not having it turned on severely limits the number of potential players available to you and could increase the time it takes for you to find a match.
The maps are, in fact, the same size as they are on PC. However, the spawn points have been moved closer together to encourage faster paced gameplay, as well as avoid spending considerable amounts of time moving into position. Additionally, the in-game camera is closer to the ship, which can sometimes give the impression that maps are smaller than they actually are.
We wanted to put battleships at the front and center of the battle, as they have the toughest armor, the most hit points, and can unleash devastating salvos at their enemies. The idea behind this is for battleships to tank and absorb as much damage as possible, leaving cruisers and destroyers to go to work against the enemy. We will continue to balance spawn points in the future based on player feedback and gathered statistics.
Nice and straightforward—one option is to do this from the Main Menu, select “Settings” and “Control Layout.” You can cycle through our various presets with ease from there. Alternatively, you this can be done in battle by pressing Menu (Xbox) or Options (PS) and selecting “Settings” from there, but keep in mind that this will not pause the battle!
You can use the Port filter by pressing and holding either X (Xbox) or Square (PS) and then selecting the appropriate criteria to filter by. Note, each row is treated as an AND criteria rather than an OR, so if you select IV and then Premium ships for instance, it will only show Tier IV Premium ships, not Tier IV researchable and Premium ships.
If our themed content is not to your taste, you can simply go to the Customization Settings in the Main Menu and disable these options. This turns off the camouflage visuals and returns any voiceovers back to the default option.
While the visuals may be turned off, any concealment and dispersion values assigned to the camo will continue to apply. For greater immersion, you can now toggle "National Voiceovers" for your ships, which changes the in-game speech from the generic voiceover to the native languages of the ship you and your teammates are sailing. You can change this at any point via your in-game Settings, but do keep in mind that this disables the Azur Lane voiceovers though!
Ranked battles are not considered mandatory content and are not connected to the main campaign. To help ensure that players can diversify their time and that various game modes are not adversely affected, we restrict the completion of primary content to Standard and Versus AI battles (on a limited basis). Missions and campaign objectives can also impact gameplay decisions in battle, which is undesirable for Ranked battles.
If we could, we would already have released Legends in every country. However, for various reasons, this is not the case. Please be assured that as the game grows, we will look to expand our global footprint—especially off the back of our recent release into the Brazilian and Taiwanese markets!
As with releasing the game in all markets, this is something we would love to do. However, localization is a very time-intensive and costly process. While we cannot give a timescale for any future localizations, it is something we are always looking at, and when we have more information, we will be sure to share! With respect to language support on the Discord, sadly it is not viable for us to have languages here in an official capacity that our Community Management or Moderator Teams are not fluent in. This may change in the future as our Community Management team expands!
From time to time, we will announce openings within our SuperTest team, along with details of how to apply. Outside of these openings, we are not able to accept applications to join.
As with the SuperTest, you essentially have to wait until we are looking for more Community Contributors (CCs.) When that time comes, you should typically have at least 1,000 followers or subscribers on your channel and produce regular content for whatever you choose. Ideally, your content should be mixed, and any Wargaming content should be measured and reasonable (being abusive towards Wargaming or its employees in your content will make it likely for the application to be declined).
Drop rates, as well as the potential contents of all in-game containers can be found on our website at http://wowslegends.com/containers.
