Tier VIII: The Latest Additions

The latest update saw the release of five new Tier VIII ships, capping all the Tech Tree lines that previously lacked a Tier VIII ship. Let's take a closer look at them!

Italian Tier VIII Cruiser Brindisi

Brindisi is based on a 1940s series of Ansaldo projects for cruisers exceeding the limitations of the naval treaties. The third project called for twelve guns housed in triple-gun turrets on a hull based on the successful Zara-class cruisers. Brindisi is based on “Option 2,” but up-gunned to carry 8-inch (203 mm) guns. These designs were offered to Spain as an export with an estimated displacement of 16,000 tons.

High speed, good concealment, an SAP option for shells, and decent defensive capabilities are what make this Regia Marina cruiser an appealing choice to play!

Italian Tier VIII Battleship Lepanto

Lepanto is a hypothetical evolution of the Littorio-class battleships, with the main turrets replaced with quadruple-gun turrets and an upgraded secondary battery. Lepanto is armed with twelve 15-inch (381 mm) guns and a fearsome secondary battery.

This ship is designed to intimidate her foes, and that’s easy to accomplish with her powerful SAP secondaries with a solid range, high speed, Exhaust Smoke Generator, and numerous guns!

Soviet Tier VIII Cruiser Petropavlovsk

One proposal for the Project 82 cruiser (which eventually became Stalingrad) was a ship designed to counter enemy cruisers with her 8.7-inch (220 mm) guns and a well-protected hull. The 220 mm/65 SM-40 guns were exceptionally powerful for their size, with an immense maximum range. A prototype was tested in 1954, and new concepts from this ship design were later incorporated into the Project 66 cruisers.

Consider this cruiser a worthy addition to your collection if you like guns that turn 360 degrees and hit like a train; good armament; and versatile consumables—she has access to Repair Party, Radar, and Sonar (the latter can be swapped for Defensive AA Fire).

Soviet Tier VIII Destroyer Neustrashimy

This was a one-off destroyer built for the Soviet Navy in the late 1940s. There were originally plans to build up to 110 of these destroyers as part of Project 41. She had an excellent cruising range for a destroyer, and her design formed the basis of the long-serving Project 56 and Type 051 destroyers. Neustrashimy served from 1955 until 1974, performing patrol and escort duties.

The in-game version of the ship features main caliber guns with 360-degree rotation and great ballistics; effective torpedoes; and a decent amount of HP, reinforced by the Repair Party consumable.

Pan-European Destroyer Småland

Småland was the second of two Halland-class destroyers built in the 1950s. Armed with 4.7-inch (120 mm) main guns that had an incredible rate of fire, they were very formidable destroyers. Småland survives today as a museum ship in Gothenburg, Sweden.

With an extremely high rate of fire, powerful AA suite, choice between Repair Party and Radar, and improved Engine Boost, Småland is definitely a great addition to any fleet!
