16 pointsGreetings to you, aspiring commanders and sea dogs! With World of Warships Legends Alpha impending, we have thought it would be a good idea to shed some light on the design decisions, or rather approach, that we are taking with WoWs:L. This also serves as opportunity to introduce myself to you, so that you know whom to direct your constructive and polite feedback to when your favourite ship gets nerfed.:) I am AINTD and I am the Lead Designer here at WoWs:L, working diligently to bring the best World of Warships experience on consoles possible. I have had a fair share of console development experience in the past and it is my intention to put it to good use in WoWs:L. Tons of design or design-related decisions need to be made on daily basis on a title as big as World of Warships. A lot of them are fun to work on, some are a tad tedious, and some are downright annoying. It is our job, however, to answer all the questions and solve all the issues we encounter during development, so that when you get your hands on the game, you actually enjoy playing it and have a good time. Many of you may be wondering whether WOWL is "just a port" of the PC version of the game. Short answer is "No, it is not just a port". While we are borrowing existing assets as well as aiming to preserve core of the World of Warships experience that makes it so engaging, we also subject all existing features to scrutiny, never shying away from updating a feature that could use it. It is not time nor place to get into specifics, but I do want to outline some fundamental ideas behind our approach. First thing is first: a gaming console is an entirely different to PC platform, with its strengths and weaknesses spanning across hardware, networking and last, but not least, input method. World of Warships relies heavily on keyboard+mouse scheme that does not really exist on consoles, so our first goal was to make sure that all mechanics translate well to controller. We have made great strides towards achieving comfortable controls and this is one of the things I would really appreciate your feedback on during the upcoming Alpha. After all, most amazing graphics and smartest mechanics in the world will be of little consequence, if you are constantly struggling with the controls. A console controller works rather differently to a mouse. Some actions are more intuitive and easier to execute, while other (e.g. aiming) require substantial updates. It is not a good thing or a bad thing - it is just different. Complementing core gameplay is our meta-game and it also is getting meaningful updates. These span progression system, port UI, social and many other features. We see WoWs:L as a great opportunity to refresh existing mechanics without having to tiptoe around status quo. We aim to make the experience more dynamic, varied and streamlined (do not confuse with "dumbed down"). At the same time, we want to remove/change some of the features that, we believe, would thwart our players. This is both challenging and exciting times for us and I hope that you - our audience, people who we are doing this for and whose satisfaction we take to heart - will join the ride and become part of the experience of bringing World of Warships to consoles. There are many other things that I would be eager to discuss, but all in due time. For now I encourage you all to take part in Alpha, play the game, scrutinize it, talk to us about it - we listen! Happy sailing!

4 pointsJust a little intro from our Lead Game Designer, hope you like what he had to say 🙂 Please keep in mind that he's currently working day and night and spamming his message box won't bear much fruit. For all your outstanding questions Discord (https://discord.gg/m8qVMbS) is the best place currently. We try to share as much as we can, but of course, until we're in the open stages info is very limited.

2 pointsI’ve thought quite a bit about translating WoWs into a controller scheme and I’m excited to find out what kind of solutions we come up with! I’ve certainly had my own ideas and I hope to be part of the Alpha to see how they stack up! Being that I’m a WoTC veteran and Supertester, I certainly have no illusions about WoWSL being a unique experience. I also have tons of admiration and respect for the WoWs developers and have every confidence that we’ll still get to play an amazing and exciting game! I genuinely appreciate your openness and dedication to working with, and for, the community! It makes us so much more than just “players”, it makes us “partners”!

2 pointsI believe we should be able to elaborate a little bit on this topic in a couple of weeks.

2 pointsI suppose open beta is where FF mechanics will either work out or blow up in our faces, so to speak. I feel like this game will end up as a smaller niche product, and I'd hate to see anyone put off because of morons trolling as soon the starting bell rings.

1 pointSo does Xbox but when they say borrowing they don't mean the controls lol .Wargaming console uses controllers only

1 pointKeyboard and mouse should not be allowed to play with standard controller players though...

1 pointMentality of the human players in PC vs Console. Many "kids" have consoles but few will get a PC powerful enough to handle WoWS in acceptable graphics settings. I have played WoWS in lower settings (old laptop dying and work laptop on the road) I can live with it because I had to but not for long duration. My son (12 now but played for 2 yrs) plays WoT Console on his own Xbox. You won't understand how a kid plays until you see it live in front of your eyes. Mouth rambling is 1 issue. Wasting shells into friendlies at spawn, pushing, nudging, ramming, on friendlies at spawn......

1 pointNah, it's not too much, just reminds me of a crazier 15 year-old me 🙂 I used to listen to a lot of UK hardcore and bordering styles then...

1 pointFriendly fire isn’t even close to being a fundamental problem in WoWs and WoTs(PC). Trolling and griefing still happens, sure, but the combination of player culture/community and WG issued punishments makes it something you rarely see. In fact, most FF incidents on WoWs are accidents by careless players..... and because there’s in game chat, those players will usually apologize. This isn’t Call of Duty where the solo sniper can pwn everything that spawns... This is a game where the strength of the team is what wins games. Wargamers also don’t put up with that crap.... we know how the Report feature works!

1 pointWhy is friendly fire even a thing is MMO style games??? it exists souly for the purpose of trolls and greifers to use it to anger allies or to unfairly punish people who accidentally kill a friendly. Good Example of this is COD's hardcore mode and a dumb ally walks on a grenade you threw and he gets blown up and you get kicked even though you had no intentions.

1 pointI remember Beta and the early live game quite well...it was a nightmare, but then WoTC was unwilling to be proactive to stop it, while WoWS is pretty good about it. I've only been attacked on purpose in WoWS once in the last 150 games or so and the troll ended up sinking themselves with mirrored damage before I really got hurt. I think it can be made to work, but I hope the Dev Team is thinking about the challenge that is going to be presented by the trolls and griefers on console.....once the Open Beta rolls around they're going to have to contend with it, if they haven't already in CBT. I think it could be brought under control, if the will was there to do what had to be done to stop it. Hitting TKers with a fine of double or more of the cost of repairs (and expended consumables) of their victims would speedily bankrupt them and they wouldn't be able to play for long. they may not care about punishment but they need credits to repair their ships so they can play, and I doubt they will be willing to spend real money to convert doubloons to credits so that they can continue to troll in the face of crippling credit fines...in effect, WG would be trolling them and I'd doubt if they would like that much.
