This message has been deleted by mistake so I'm reposting it for all the interested parties. Our team has spotted some active discussions on friendly fire being a thing in our game and before that discussion becomes a military operation with casualties, we wanted to put an end to speculations and explain what's what. Let's start by stating that there is no friendly fire in World of Warships: Legends. It means that ships on your teams will be oblivious to your shells and torpedoes, yet will absorb them if a contact happens. So the only punishment for erroneous aiming or positioning of your ship in relation to your allies would be missed opportunity. This approach allows the game to be more friendly to the newer players and simultaneously keep the focus on battling enemy vehicles. Now, there obviously was a great deal of pondering regarding the issue, the pros and cons and how it would ultimately affect player experience. While we did argue that not having friendly fire is not realistic nor historically accurate, the questions that we had to answer at the end of the day were "What would having friendly fire really give us? What is its place within core gameplay mechanics of WoWS:L?". And if you think about it, it does not bring anything revelationary to the table, nor does it fit-in with the rest of mechanics. We believe that the choice of foregoing a fraction of realism for the sake of having a more user-friendly experience is not really a choice. Another important point that we considered is so called "griefing". You're probably familiar with the phenomenon in one way or another, but what it comes down to is emotional players trying to hurt their own team by either employing friendly fire or simply playing in such a way that helps the opposing team. There are also ways to "grief" players of the opposing teams but that requires a respawn mechanic in most cases (not present in this game). Realistically, it is nigh-impossible to forego such practices completely, so we decided to dispose of the most obvious way to ruin the evenings. This change from the PC version goes together with our ultimate goal of streamlining the warships experience and should contribute to most players having their naval fun uninterrupted.

Greetings! We've received some questions about whose game it is. Let's make it clear and not leave any room for wild guesses🙂 The game is developed within Wargaming Saint-Petersburg, the studio which gave birth to World of Warships PC and some older titles before, back when it was known as Lesta Studio. The Legends team core was created long time ago (when the project was internally approved in Wargaming) with several key World of Warships PC developers and several newly hired console specialists. Since then the team has grown independently. It's still very compact compared to WoWS PC, because we can safely steal...uh...borrow...uh...share a lot of 3D assets from the PC game. As for the community relations, the key responsible figures are Sub_Octavian (me), Philigula (by the way we're both Phils and we're based in St. Pete studio as well - but we're not brothers) and a couple of great guys based in WoWS PC EU and NA teams. They will join us a bit later with community growth to ensure quality sustained communications in major languages and time zones. I was working on WoWS PC since Alpha, and many players know me very well. I made many mistakes and learned even more lessons, but overall, I hope I did manage to create a friendly, open and appealing dev-player interaction there, which in turn has helped a lot of player-driven changes to happen. Now I am intending to use all of my experience and efforts to make this community the best place for you guys. Philigula joined my team around a year ago. He's super fluent English speaker, energetic, and he actually likes Legends more than PC version. He also used to troll the rest of my team too much. Hence, he was appointed to do all the work while I relax and write PSAs like this 😛 Both of us are in tight contact with key developers, so rest assured, we won't be just "talking heads" - instead we will be pushing your questions, concerns and argument to the team, and vice versa - so that the game thrives. Of course there will be more people involved, but it will mostly be on service level, and will depend on work load. To sum up, the team is compact, experienced, tightly connected, and is willing to provide many great moments for you guys. I am counting on you as well, because very soon we will start building the base for the future game community together. How would we treat newcomers? Will we be able to foster friendly and interesting discussion? What would people say about Legends "playerbase"? It's all on us. We're excited about this challenge. By the way, we're going through your Alpha Test applications and there's a lot, no, A LOT of them. This level of engagement from you makes us smile! (Okay, it makes me smile as happily as I can, and probably makes Philigula work overnight and cry, but on average, we're smiling). Thank you! We will be telling you more about our progress, team and other interesting stuff in the days to come. Follow the news. And if you're interested in such blog-style updates, let us know in the comments and maybe hint at what are you interested in. Cheers!

Hey there, Legends! You might have spent some time with us already or be newcomers on these forums, but either way what I'm going to write below is something you might find useful in our future interactions. As you likely noticed by now, we're pretty open when it comes to our communications with you. We absolutely intend to keep it this way going forward and foster a community that is built on mutual respect, friendliness and the ability to listen to each other. Now, if that wall of text below is scaring you, here's the TLDR version: Keep it civilized, use reason, speak your mind, be fair in your critique and share your ideas, but understand that development takes time and resources. If you stop here and take those to heart - thank you 😉 Now, if you're still reading - good, it means that I have some space to elaborate, so we can understand each other better. Here goes. When it comes to forum topics we're going to try and engage in conversations that are stimulating and useful. Of course we're going to react to the most lively topics and see whether we can steer the dialogue in a constructive direction or just keep it there. Unfortunately, there will be times when interaction between us or between you and other players might devolve into a contest of sorts or an episode of unfunny sitcom. Such topics will be either locked or deleted altogether, as we're going to try and promote reason, self-control and adult behavior. That said, humans are emotional beings, and most of us on this forum and Discord channel are indeed humans, so some degree of giving into your emotions is of course understandable. Yet, if you feel that you were wronged by someone, insulting that person is never an answer. Please rely on moderation and report offensive behaviour, but also try to have some perspective. Many times we invest so heavily into an opinion that we don't see its potential shortcomings or outright fallacy. Also remember that what you've said is saved on the Internet pretty much forever. And you have ample opportunity to word your opinion/idea or retort in a way that would best bring your thought to life and let others work with it effectively and efficiently. Then there's the issue of flood. As the play sessions haven't started yet we're mostly conversing in the off-topic section and that's fine for now. We're still getting to know each other as we prepare to plunge into the depths of Legends. This means that tolerance for flood is going to be higher until the game is released, since we do need to converse and Discord might not be the preferred channel for you, as the rhythm of forums is something you may find more comfortable. Bored to tears yet? Wait, there's more! What about feedback? We're going to listen closely to what you have to say in your feedback reports, however, please understand that implementing a new feature is not as easy as typing in 'new feature'/implement. It's always a process with a lot of testing and quality control involved. A single ship can spend several months in modeling and balancing. And when it comes to features that require a separate development pipeline it's even longer. That said, if there is a feature that players (you) single out as a negative one, we look into it and see how we can improve it or simply get rid of it, but again, that requires time. Initial focus will be on making sure that the game is as polished and smooth as can be, and simply fun to play and spend your time in. If there's a suggestion, even one supported on our communication channels, we will still look at the wider population of players, poll them and see whether the proposed feature would really be an improvement for the most of them. So "develop - make sure it's working correctly - consider new features" would be our MO going forward. We're open to opinions and critique as long as those are within reason. "Your game sucks" is an opinion, of course, but it has no way of starting or stimulating a healthy conversation that would lead to betterment of the game or the community. It's a throwaway statement that serves either to bait or taunt the developers and/or community members into a meaningless and sometimes hurtful exchange. Now that we've got deep, perhaps deeper than anyone expected let's be clear: we want to stay on the same page with you and to do that we need to respect each other, each other's opinions and time. Thanks for getting through this admitted wall of text and if you feel like this is simply too much info to digest in a single sitting, let us repeat the communication principles that we're proposing and going to follow ourselves to the best of our abilities: Keep it civilized Use reason Speak your mind Be fair in your critique Don't be afraid to share your ideas Understand that development takes time and resources If you've read this all the way through, a sincere thank you! Here's hoping that we're stay connected and understand each other! Turn the tide!

Hey Legends! My name is Polina and I’m also a part of the St. Petersburg studio. Although I’m new to the World of Warships, I will be happy to explore the WoWs: Legends together with you. I’m as enthusiastic about the game coming out just as you are guys! I’ve previously worked with a variety of game communities and even had some experience in making art and assets. I confess, it is a thrilling experience to be a part of different development stages, but it is even more fascinating to share the game experience together with players. Teaming up for the next battle and keeping track of everything that is going on around you (saying Hi to the enemies’ torpedoes) that’s what makes me excited, not to mention a good variety of ships to try and battle achievements to unlock! As the WoWs Legends audience grows, there is no doubt that such fine captains as Sub_Octavian and Philigula would need a bigger crew. We appreciate our community and your engagement, so we will do our best to provide you with all the needed support and consider your feedback. I’m here to make sure that you stay up to date, sharing with you all the latest news, teasing you with some of the developers’ plans and answering your questions. I’m inviting everyone to contribute to our community. Share your thoughts, tell us what you are interested in, give us your feedback. I'm eager to become a part of this newly-minted community and grow together with you guys! Hope to see you all become Legends! Turn the tide!
